tribology Profilometer works on the principle of LVDT (Linear Variable Differential Transform) here stylus is dragged on surface of sample which gives roughness and profile of the surface. It can also measure the thickness of the coatings if some area is masked during the coating so that uncoated area is having sharp boundary.
